I’ve been here for seven months, and I still haven’t been able to claim any task. I thought something was wrong with my account or my profile. But something I recently found out (that I wish I knew earlier) is that many tasks are restricted to “verified translators.” I just wanted to put that out there so that people who are in my situation can understand why they might not be able to see any tasks on the homepage and keep getting that “Warning! You cannot access this project!” message when they click on a project link from the Community Forum. I know that some new volunteers might feel lost like I have. That’s why I thought I would share that information. Have a nice rest of the week!

P.S. If anyone can help me with information on how to become a verified translator I would really appreciate it! And also, is there a way I can use my experience as a TED translator to prove my skills?

We would like to mention that we have been gradually moving away from verification and we are no longer verifying our volunteers. Nowadays, all translation tasks are available to all volunteers who have the language combination on their profile.
We see that you have listed your language pairs on your profile and everything is in order so you will have access to tasks in your language pairs when they are available. We would recommend regularly checking the homepage for tasks.
The “Warning! You cannot access this project!” message means that someone claimed the task before you, since notifications about new projects are sent to many users for the same language, and they work on a first-come, first-served basis, so you want to be quick in claiming the task!

I was able to my complete my first tasks last week. It was exciting to finally contribute to the valuable work that TWB is doing. I just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me along the way, whether it’s by providing resources and information or tips, suggestions, and encouragement. Even receiving a
makes a difference because it makes you feel seen and appreciated. I owe special thanks to the project manager of the tasks I worked on @veronica.cobo.carpio, to @ambra, @ahmad.konainah1, @hannah.majebiola, and to @ValerieT for the French style guide, which I found extremely useful.
