Creating a translation project on Kató Platform

Once you are approved as a partner with TWB, you can make your content available for translation on Kató Platform.

Each of your organization contacts submitting translation requests needs to be announced to TWB before they are able to log on. So please provide your assigned project manager with the names and emails of people who need to access Kató Platform.

To submit your translation request, go to https://kato.translatorswb.org to login.

Make sure to have your file ready in supported formats {.odt, .docx, .pptx, .txt} -avoid PDFs, .doc files and images with text.- Old office files formats are also not supported. Read about it here. Make sure to accept all tracked changes and delete any comments before submission. Then, provide as much information as possible about your project. This will encourage translators to help you.

Reference materials or additional information about your project will help translators do a better job because they have a better understanding of what the text is about and what purpose it serves. We encourage you to include instructions and reference materials when creating your translation request.

To improve turnaround times, we suggest posting smaller projects (under 2,000 words) as these are more likely to be picked up by translators.

To create your project:

  1. Go to Dashboard
  2. Click Create Project
  3. Upload your source file
  4. Select the source language and target language(s). You will not be able to amend them after creating the project. Some restrictions regarding hard-to-source languages apply - see our Fair usage guidelines.pdf (130.3 KB) for details. A list of hard-to source languages is available here:TWB hard-to-source languages.pdf (58.4 KB)
  5. Set a reasonable deadline - see our Fair Usage Guidelines for recommendations
  6. Select both Translation and Revision. This will ensure that your translation will be checked by a reviser.
  7. Provide as much information as possible about your project
  8. When you are finished, click Create Project

After creating a new project, please open the Kató Community link to the forum topic for your project where translators may be asking you questions. You can subscribe to the thread, so you will be notified via email when translators post a question. Find out how to subscribe to threads here

You can track the progress of your requests in Kató Platform by selecting ‘Dashboard’ in the menu. You will be notified by email when your project is claimed by a translator and, finally, when it has been completed. Find out how to download completed projects here.
